Staff picks on spreads, totals for Week 2

With the XFL taking a vested interest in incorporating gambling aspects of the game into its broadcasts, last weekend’s first game between the DC Defenders and Seattle Dragons provided plenty of drama for total bettors.

A pick-six gave the Defenders a 31-19 lead with nearly 13 minutes remaining, and over bettors (the total was 51.5) were sitting pretty. But that next score never came, and a red zone turnover by Seattle sealed a win for the Defenders and under bettors.

Hopefully you weren’t on that over. If you were, better luck this week. Here are USA TODAY Sports’ staff picks for XFL Week 2 (all lines via Bet MGM).

New York Guardians (+6.5) at DC Defenders (O/U 47.5) 2 p.m., ABC

Both teams won handily in Week 1, but the Defenders left more points on the board with empty red zone series. They have the better quarterback in Cardale Jones, but the Guardians have the makings of a solid defense. Home teams went 3-1 in Week 1, however, and the Defenders have more weapons.

Bumbaca’s Bet: Defenders -6.5

Lorenzo’s Lock: Defenders -6.5

Tampa Bay Vipers (-2.5) at Seattle Dragons (O/U 44.5) 5 p.m., Fox
